D-I-Y recipe: Natural lip balm
This serves a dual purpose, as it works very well as nail and cuticle cream, too. They’re also good gifts and perfect to carry around in a handbag or briefcase.
Natural lip
balm
Makes approx. 8 pots
130ml sweet almond oil
20g dried rose petals, dried mint or dried lavender
70g beeswax, grated
1 teaspoon runny honey
2 vitamin E capsules
small pots or jars (25ml is a good size)
1. Place oil in a small pan with the petals, mint or lavender. Warm gently over a low heat for 5 minutes – do not boil. Cover and leave to cool and infuse overnight.
2. Strain into a small, heatproof bowl and discard the solids. Place bowl over a pan of barely simmering water – the water should not touch the bowl. Stir in beeswax and honey until everything is blended. Remove from heat, pierce capsules and squeeze contents into mixture. Pour into pots, cool and seal. The balm will keep for 2 months.
